Counting Down To The End Of The Year

Well, my semester break is winding down. It's hard to believe 2011 is almost over! Seems like just yesterday I was talking about 2011 starting. I guess the idiom is true...time flies (especially as I get older).

Today I ordered myself a late Christmas present. It should be delivered between Jan 4-Jan 6. I broke down and bought a 27-inch iMac. It'll be all pimped out..

After a bit of initial Buyer's Remorse, I'm really excited and can't wait to get it. Now I have to get a new computer desk/table. Lord knows the new iMac won't fit into my current setup. I'm leaning towards a plain Craftsman-style table and maybe a new Craftsman-style chair.

Tomorrow morning a friend (Aaron) and I are taking a road trip to Raleigh. Aaron has to head to the Apple store to put up a replacement for his iPhone. Something happened to it and now it's acting up. Maybe we'll make a day of it since we'll be at Crabtree Valley Mall.

Beginning Of The Semester

Well, I managed to survive the first day of classes for the Fall Semester 2011. Now I only have the rest of the 16 weeks to endure. I don't think I'll have any problems with my returning Second-Year students. They're a pretty good group. Unfortunately, I am anxious about my smaller than usual group of First-Year students. I only have 6 new students compared to the average of 14-18 every August. Because of that fact, my Department Head and I were "called on the carpet" by our Divisional Chair because we should be doing more recruiting. My theory is, we can't force students to enroll in our curriculum.

Happy 235th Birthday, America!

As I have for as long as I can remember, Mom and I are watching "A Capitol Fourth" on PBS. Dad doesn't watch these things. Mom and I are the ones to watch the award shows and holiday concerts. If Gramma were alive, I'm sure she'd be watching as well. The Memorial Day concert always makes us both cry...along with the Veterans Day concert.

A week from tomorrow, Mom will have surgery at UNC Chapel Hill Women's Hospital. It's should be routine, but I'm still being "a worrywart" since Mom will turn 70 a week later. Positive thoughts....

Tomorrow I go back to work. It'll be good to get back into the routine of running the CAD Lab after being off for a week. I still have to finish installing the new AutoCAD/Architecture/3DSMAX software. I'll be glad when that's done.

Happy Canada Day!

As a second-generation Canadian-American, let me wish everyone a very Happy Canada Day (Fête du Canada). It was fun seeing where my Gramma was born and spent her childhood years (when I took Mom and my eldest niece a few summers ago).

I've been off work all this week for mid-semester break. I return to work on Tuesday. It'll be good to get back to work. If I don't have a trip planned on my breaks, I end up getting antsy.

I did manage to finish the second book of The Newsflesh Trilogy by Mira Grant called Deadline. If you're a zombie, sci-fi, blogging, mystery fan...then I highly recommend you read Feed and Deadline. They were really amazing and now I'm jonesing for the final book in the trilogy!

Not much else is going on here. I think I might head to the gym in a bit.

Another Wednesday...Hot!

Whew! It is sweltering out! According to weather.com, we are 92° but it feels like 95°. When I was running errands before coming to work, the Lincoln's thermostat said it was 100°. Thankfully, I'm sitting in the nice, cool CAD Lab.

Speaking of the CAD Lab, we received the "Autodesk Building Design Suite for Education 2012" yesterday. I am SO happy to get the new software. The only bad thing is that it takes forever to uninstall the old software and install the new software. Yesterday afternoon it took me almost 4 hours to completely uninstall and update AutoCAD, Architecture, and 3DS MAX Design. At this rate, it will take me all semester to update 21 computers! But the good thing is that it is mindless work.

I got a haircut on my way into work today. I just caught Ronda before she left the salon. She was able to fit me in and it only took about 15 minutes. Now I'm ready for the hot & humid weather.

My nephew and his girlfriend are driving down from Virginia on Friday to spend the weekend with us. I think on Saturday we'll take them to the beach. Of course, I'll also take them to Starbucks. ;)

I'm in the process of reading two books on my iPad. The first is the new book from Erik Larson (In the Garden of Beasts). I loved his other books. The other book is the second book of The Newsflesh Trilogy from Mira Grant (Deadline). I'm a sucker for zombie books!

Okay, let me go and pretend to be working (rolls eyes).

Mulligan Stew...

As many of you know, my head is full of pop culture references from my whole life. Think of my brain like a large, disorganized garage full of songs, commercials, TV show clips, posters, and the like from 1971 onwards.

Well, a while back I was talking to a fellow faculty member, who is about 8-9 years younger, about a nutrition song I learned in elementary school. I could remember it having numbers in the chorus...and the numbers were 4-4-3-2. This was way before the food pyramid or recent food plate. After scouring the internet and slipping down pop culture "rabbit holes", I finally found it!

It was a program called "Mulligan Stew" and it also had a companion comic book. Here are some links for anyone curious.

A/C Update...

Well, I just got a phone call from Mom. The HVAC guy was there and apparently a capacitor was dead and they fixed it in no time flat. The house now has A/C and thankfully didn't cost that much. Hopefully, this means that the house should be cool by 5pm (when I get home from work).

Sweltering Evening & Morning...

Well, last night when I got home from work, I noticed that the house was very warm despite the A/C running continuously. I felt the vents and there was warm air coming out. Well, we had to shut off the A/C and open the windows. Since the high for yesterday was over 95 degrees, having a house in the mid 80's is not fun. We called our HVAC people and were told that they were extremely busy and they would add us to the list.

Sleeping last night was an exercise in futility! Even with the fan in my bedroom on high, I was sweaty and miserable. Fitful patches of light sleep was all I could get. Since my window was wide open, when the sun rose and streamed through my window...I was up.

I haven't eaten anything since dinner last night because it's SO hot and muggy. All food is just too heavy and makes me even hotter. I have been diligent about staying hydrated, however.

This morning I ended up taking a cold shower before work. For the short time I was in there, I was in heaven. But alas, I had to get out, dry off, and get dressed (which caused me to get sweaty all over again).

When I left the house, the HVAC guys had not been there but we were assured when we called again at 8am that they would get there as soon as possible. I hope they come and fix it before I get off work at 5pm.

All I have to say is that I will gladly pay any and all amount to have my house be as cool and dry as possible in the summer. Hell, I'd even sacrifice heat in the winter as long as I can be cool in the summer.

Students and fellow instructors know to steer clear of me until I've cooled down. Like the saying goes, "If Mama ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy!"

Hump Day At Work...

I'm sitting here in an empty CAD Lab. The last student just left after working on some AutoCAD assignments. My Department Head let me know that we should receive the 2012 Education Suite from Autodesk anytime after Friday!

Earlier this week, the CAD Lab was experiencing HVAC problems. Mainly, it was without air conditioning! For someone who likes to keep the lab around 72 degrees, having the lab be 86 degrees was not fun. I broke down and used our old box fan by my computer. I don't know if the hot temps were the culprit or if it was broken hardware in our geothermal system. I'm just thrilled that it's in the mid 70's now in the lab.

I'm currently reading the new Albert Brooks novel 2030: The Real Story of What Happens to America on my iPad. Since I like both Albert Brooks AND speculative fiction, this is a perfect fit. I'll have to write more about it when I finish.

It seems like all my TV shows are finished, finishing, or cancelled. NBC was foolish to cancel "The Event" without seeing if a second season would boost their ratings. Maybe the SyFy Channel will pick it up (although I'm not holding out much hope for that). Maybe some new summer shows will fill the regular season void...

Facebook Frenemies...I know I'm not the only person who has friends on their Facebook just so you can keep tabs on them? I really only have one "former friend" who I refuse to defriend so I can randomly peek at their page and see what they're doing. My theory is, if they don't defriend me, it's their fault. ;)

Yesterday, I picked up the new Lady Gaga and Glee Cast CDs at Target. So far, I love them both. I'm just a bit miffed that a couple songs were missing from the Glee CD.

I'm sitting here listening to the new CD from Lady Gaga. It is really good! I'll be getting it next week when it goes on sale. It will be a great addition to my "gym mix" on my iPod. Thanks to GagaVille (aka Farmville) I get to stream the album after completing some missions related to Gaga.

Well, Dad had cataract surgery on Thursday on his left eye. He did great and this morning Mom and I took him to his post-surgery checkup. Monday morning will hopefully be his final appointment for that eye. After a month, his doctor will check the other eye and see if that one needs surgery too. My boss told me about a few of their relatives that had the same surgery and now do not need glasses. That would be great if Dad experienced the same.

The summer semester started on Wednesday and I'm always ready to have a lighter schedule. I don't have to teach, just have to run the CAD Lab for the students. No matter how many times I mention it to the students, inevitably one of them leaves the computer while being logged into Facebook. Like a pack of wild hyenas, the other students "punk" them by changing their status, etc. I've only had this happen to me once...lesson definitely learned!

Sunday Afternoon...Semester Break

Sultry and steel grey...that's the theme for this Sunday. Friday was the last day of the Spring Semester at work and for that, I am eternally grateful! Now I have off until the Summer Semester begins on Wednesday. I would've had a longer break, but since my part of NC had more wintry weather than usual, we had days to make up.

If you read or subscribe to this blog, you're probably in shock right about now. I've changed the look and decided I might end my blogging hiatus. Summertime bring out the blogger in me. I think it's the abundance of "free time" and the fact that my summer work in the CAD Lab puts me in front of a computer. Lord knows, how much time can you spend playing all the various and sundry Zynga games on Facebook?? I am loathe to admit to playing a fair majority of them (Farmville, Frontierville, Cityville, Vampire Wars, Words With Friends, Treasure Isle). We'll have to dedicate a whole blog post to my apparent need for a 12-step program...maybe call myself a "Zyngaholic".

Okay, I need to get going for now. I need to get dinner together. There's nothing better than a slow cooker beef stew with red sauce.....except maybe a beef stew with brown sauce.

Friday Night At Starbucks

I'm sitting here at Starbucks on a Friday night in November. It was sunny and cool and despite my cold (head is stuffed up), I love this time of year. Work is the same as ever. I can't wait till this semester is over. My sister, Debbie, is coming for a week before Christmas. I guess you could call that a present for all involved.

I just finished reading "Johannes Cabal The Necromancer" on my iPad while I was here at Bux. It was a great book. Now I have to download the sequel. My iPad is really great for reading books...I don't have to worry about keeping books on a bookshelf anymore.

This afternoon, a few students and I played a few games of Catan. I haven't played that in a long time...since Jenna & Adam went to UNC-C. I might have to try and find a few people to have weekly games (like we used to before "the group" disbanded).

Sunday Night...Late August

It's late evening Sunday night and I'm sitting here in the den watching TV. I can't get over how quickly weekends pass. The Fall Semester began last Monday and I'm already looking forward to the Labor Day holiday. Don't get me wrong, I love teaching, it's just that I have to get back into the swing of things.

Not much has been going on with me. My life consists of work, the gym, and Starbucks. I just got back from Starbucks. Nobody was up there, so it gave me some quiet time to read a book on my iPad. I'm currently reading The Osiris Ritual by George Mann. It's the second book in a series of Victorian Steampunk mysteries. I really love this genre and it seems apropos that I read it on my iPad.

Changing gears and direction, I wanted to talk about friendships. It seems that I am in the minority. I'm under the misguided impression that friendships are a 50/50 partnership. Unfortunately, most people are quite happy to only put forth 25%-30% effort into their friendships. I've developed a thick skin about it. Bringing it up to the friends does no good. So, if you're in a friendship, take a step back and reevaluate it. Are you giving as much as you're getting back?

Enough of my soapbox rant. I'm really looking forward to next Sunday's 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards! Yes, I readily admit to be an award show fan. It's a great opportunity to "celebrity watch" and lose myself in the glitz and glamor or Hollywood.

My First 39th Birthday!

Well, Sunday was my 39th birthday. To me, it was just another day. All I really did was go to the movies with Dad (to see "The Sorcerer's Apprentice), had a great beef roast in the pressure cooker, then met a few friends at Starbucks for game night. We ended up playing Catan. Of course, I didn't win...Adam did. Adam and Jenna ended up giving me a pair of Sanuk Vagabond sandals in charcoal. I really love them! Now I'm going to have to pick them up in a few different colors.

Today was Mom's birthday. I offered to take off work and take Mom down to Wilmington for a day of shopping, but she didn't really feel like it, but Mom did ask if I would take her to Barnes & Noble after dinner. I ended up getting her three paperback romance novels and a coffee frappaccino. We had a good time.

Even though it's cool and grey, I have good hopes for 2010.

I just got back from the gym. I did a cardio workout this morning to kick-off a healthier new year. I ended up doing 30 minutes on the elliptical (526 calories) followed by 40 minutes on the treadmill (518 calories).

Last night, Mom and I watched Virginia Tech beat Tennessee in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl then switched to CNN where we watched the ball drop with Kathy Griffin & Anderson Cooper. We had a glass of wine, then went to bed. I ended up falling asleep to The Thin Man marathon on TCM.

I just have a few more days off until I return to work. I'm glad I won't be teaching an online class during Spring Semester.

Wii Sports Resort

I just spent over two hours playing with my new Wii Sports Resort. I've found that I'm really loving the frisbee golf, archery, and table tennis. The other night, Adam and Jen came over and we played that for game night. Now I have three new motion controllers and nunchucks.

Last Day Of 2009...

Today is the last day of 2009. I'm enjoying it by watching The Three Stooges Marathon on AMC. The other night I finished my second Stephen King book, and last night I started the book I got from Debbie (I Shudder by Paul Rudnick). I might even finish this one before heading back to work on Tuesday. That will make three books read over my semester break.

This year has had it's ups and downs. I made some new friends, but also lost a friend. Hopefully, 2010 will be full of family, friends, and prosperity.

Tonight I think Mom and I will do our usual "watch the ball drop" on TV, toast the new year with a glass of wine, then go to bed.

Just Finished "Under The Dome"...

Within the past 5-10 minutes, I finished reading "Under The Dome" by Stephen King. At 1072 pages, it was quite a hefty tome, but well worth the weight. I thought it was "classic King" where there boogeymen are oftentimes us (with some King twists slipped in).

Now that my fall semester is over and I'm on break until January 5, I have time to catch up on some other reading. I have another King book and a Bachman book to read. After I finish those two books, I think I might treat myself to a Barnes&Noble Nook. From all of my research and comparisons, it seems to beat the Amazon Kindle.

When I woke up this morning it was raining with temperatures in the upper 40's. Now the rain has stopped but the wind has picked up and the temps are steadily falling to the low 30's.

Not much else is going on. I'm SO glad the week is half over. I'm just about to change and meet Jeff at the gym for a leg workout (my favorite).

Autumnal Sunday

Today is a beautiful fall day. It's a cool and cloudy day with a high about 70-71. I woke up pretty early (7:30) and I read through the newspaper. I was a bit disappointed with the sale papers...I was hoping that there would be more considering it's a holiday weekend. Alas, they were "skimpy".

I went to the gym early and did 50 minutes on the elliptical followed by 50 minutes on the treadmill. It was a good workout with some nice "eye candy" to help pass the time. Did I mention how much I love the "genius feature" in my iPod? I mean, what did I ever do before it?

When I got home and weighed-in, I was SO happy to see that I had lost 1.0 pound and a bit of bodyfat. I think the new routine I'm doing with Jeff is working.

Tonight a friend is having a bachelorette party at a local club. My other friend Jen and I might go make an appearance. I'm not 100% committed yet.

Saturday Night...Long Weekend

I'm sitting here in the den with Mom and we're watching The Graham Norton Show on BBC America. I love Graham! He's a hoot!

Earlier today, Dad and I went to see Couples Retreat. I thought Peter Billingsley did a great job directing. It was a great combo of chick-flick and raunchy guy flick. And there were some good previews before the film...most notably a brand new trailer for New Moon. I told Debbie about it and she practically swooned. I still won't see it and I didn't see Twilight either.

The gym and workouts have been going well. Jeff and I started a new workout routine two weeks ago. It's a routine of high reps and fewer exercises. It also has three bodyparts per workout and two exercises per bodypart. So that means only six exercises, but it's a quick pace that ends up being quite aerobic.

Work is going quite well. I'm SO thankful for having a four-day weekend. Monday and Tuesday I'll be off for the college's "Fall Break". Since I am a faculty advisor for PTK, I was part of our Fall Induction ceremony for new members. We had about 101 new inductees. Luckily, the ceremony went off without any major problems.

Not much else is going on with me. I'm basically just working, hitting the gym, reading, watching TV, and occasionally visiting Starbucks (usually just to read or have a Game Night with Adam & Jen). Many of the old group doesn't go to Starbucks much anymore.

End Of September Tuesday Evening

I'm sitting here in the den with Mom and she's watching "The Good Wife". Tonight after work and dinner I met Jeff at the gym and we had a great abs/legs/shoulders workout. Jeff came back to working out with me yesterday. We're doing a new routine of 4 sets of 20 reps...2 exercises per bodypart. It's a great routine thus far and I hope it helps us both shed some bodyfat.

Work is going well. The fall semester is running smoothly. Next week I'll be doing some "faculty advising" stuff. I hope it all goes well.

I'm glad the new TV season has begun. Of course I'm always glad to see new episodes of my favorites like Heroes, Family Guy, and 30 Rock. But I've stumbled upon some new shows I'm liking...Modern Family, Flash Forward, and Community. I hope they survive.

Monday On Vacation...

Well, today is the last Monday I have off until the Fall Semester begins on Thursday. I got up at 6am this morning because I had to get ready for an 8am chiropractic appointment. I plan on getting up at 6am the rest of my vacation just so I can get used to the early hours. My chiro appt. went really well. I had heat/stim/traction before getting adjusted by Dr. Sparks. After the adjustment he said I'm now on an "as needed" basis. That means if I have any more pains or problems, just call and make an appointment. I'm telling you, I'm SO glad I followed Dr. Sparks when he started his own office! He's a great Chiropractor who really helps.

After the doctors, Mom and I went to get our haircuts. Since Rhonda was doing a highlight, we had to come back in an hour so we went over to Barnes & Noble to browse through the magazines. Once we were shorn, we stopped into Sam's Club so I could do a bit of shopping and renew my membership.

Now all I have to do today is go to the gym. I'll probably do that around 1-2 this afternoon. I'm not sure if Jen, Adam, and I are doing 'Game Night' tonight.

Tax-Free Weekend 2009

Today is the start of the 2009 "Tax-Free Weekend" here in NC. Since it coincides with my semester break, Mom and I took the day to travel to Wilmington to do some shopping. Our first stop was Kohl's. I ended up getting 5 pairs of work pants (in various colors) and a new pair of New Balance running shoes to replace my ratty gym shoes. Mom picked up some shirts for my nephew Peter and some shirts for my niece Sarah. Afterwards, we drove over to Mayfaire Town Center. In Belk I ended up getting 3 dress shirts. Mom got a dress shirt for Peter and a new brown purse for herself. Lastly, we walked around Williams-Sonoma so I could 'browse'. I wanted to buy one of everything in that store! Then we drove back to Jacksonville.

I think tomorrow I might stop by Old Navy and pick up some underwear and wifebeaters. My old ones are getting thin & worn.

Wednesday Evening

It's Wednesday night and Mom and I are watching TV. Unfortunately, there isn't much worthwhile on TV. We've been flipping all night. Right now we're watching HGTV.

Today was a pretty good day. I slept in until about 8am (I'm gonna miss that once the fall semester starts). I went into work early to help a former student who is working on drawings for a house he inherited. After that, I had the lab all to myself so I just listened to Sirius radio online while I worked on the computer.

After work I went home and had a bit of dinner, then rested a bit before heading to the gym. Unfortunately, Jeff was stuck at work and couldn't meet me, so I worked cardio/back/biceps alone. I ended up having a great workout even though I was by myself.

Once I was finished at the gym, I went home and cleaned up. Since my friend Melissa was working at Starbucks, I went to visit her. The old group was up there sitting outside. Of course only one or two of them came in to say "hi" to me. Since the vast majority of them ignored me, I stayed inside and chatted a bit with Melissa while she made drinks. I only stayed another 15 minutes or so before coming home.

Well, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is about to come home, so I'm going to cut this short.

"Frenemies" And Other Topics...

I was looking through the new words that Merriam-Webster added to its dictionary this year and was intrigued by "frenemy". I've had quite a few frenemies in my life. Once or twice I was the unwitting friend of a frenemy....because I was naive enough to think the frenemy was my actual friend. A couple of other times I was just friends with someone to keep an eye on them.

Tonight I met up with Jen & Adam for Game Night. We ended up playing Scrabble Slam and Monopoly Deal card games. It was really fun.

I can't tell you how much I love Kathy Griffin and her TV show on Bravo! She is friggin' hilarious. I hope she's touring near me soon...because I'd love to go (even if I have to go alone).

I'm so conflicted about this season of Big Brother! Jessie is some great "eye candy", but I absolutely LOATHE Ronnie, Chima, and Lydia. I've read ahead about the show on BigBrotherUpdates and I'm not happy about how the week is turning out.

Well, today is my 38th birthday (at least got about 35 more minutes). Tomorrow is my Mom's birthday.

Today was a nice, quiet birthday. We did the usual Saturday errands. Dad and I went to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The theater was jam-packed with families. I thought it was a great film. I liked the darker look of the film. Now I can't wait for the two final films.

Dinner was very nice. We grilled some burgers and had steamed broccoli and fries. After dinner I went up to Starbucks to grab a coffee and was lucky enough to catch Melissa taking her "lunch". She gave me a birthday hug and we sat outside chatting until she had to return to work.

I don't feel any older or different. To me, birthdays are just another day. I did enjoy getting birthday well-wishes on Myspace and Facebook. It's good to know that people care.

I just got back from a great dinner at Shogun Japanese Steakhouse with Adam and Jen. They took me out for my birthday. I had never been to a teppanyaki restaurant before, and I had a really nice time. I got the chicken meal. It was very tasty and I even splurged and had some of the rice. Afterwards, we stopped at Starbucks and they also got me my venti Cafe Americano. I'm really lucky to have friends like them. It's not often that former students become such good friends.

When I went to work today, I got a card and gift certificate booklet from the folks in my office. They know it'll get used. Tomorrow Dad and I are going to see the new Harry Potter film. I can't wait! I ended up not staying at work the full time. All of the students left soon after class left, so there was really no reason for me to stick around. So when I got home, I treated myself to a nice nap.

I think I might buy myself a Wii for my birthday. I loved playing it with my nephew in Chicago. I need to compare prices before I take the plunge.

New Season of Big Brother!

Last night was the season premiere of Big Brother 11. I'm not a huge fan of reality shows, but Big Brother is my guilty pleasure...especially during the summer (when EVERYTHING else is a rerun).

This year's theme is High School Cliques. Why is it that everyone who say, "Oh man, I loved High School!" are usually either the jocks or popular kids? I suppose I was in the 'offbeat' clique. There is some very nice beefcake this year. The best example is Jessie Godderz (the bodybuilder from last year's BB) who won the right to be the 13th houseguest and first Head of Household. I could watch Jessie do anything...he's so dreamy. When I went to bed last night, I put on Showtime 2 and watched some of Big Brother After Dark. Nothing like falling asleep to Jessie shirtless.

I'm sitting here in the CAD Lab at work on my laptop. This morning was quiet a bit cooler than normal. It was nice driving to work with the windows down.

My old workout partner, Jeff, moved back from South Carolina last weekend. He rejoined Gold's Gym and began working out with me on Tuesday. It's great to have a workout partner again. It lets me push myself harder and gives me the motivation to stay ahead of Jeff (youngster that he is). He's been feeling it since he hasn't worked out in several months. Hopefully with us working together, we can cut the fat while adding some muscle.

Things have been pretty quiet otherwise. I go to work, go to the gym, and very seldom go to Starbucks anymore. I'm reading a great sci-fi book titled The Unincorporated Man. It's a great "fast read"!

I'm sitting here enjoying a Friday off from work. I'm listening to channel 22 (1st Wave) on Sirius. A little bit later in the day Dad and I are going to see Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs in 3D. From the trailers, it looks really cute.

Well it's official...I'm the newest faculty advisor for my college's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). On Tuesday I met with the instructor I'm replacing. He's a really nice guy who doesn't have the time to dedicate to PTK since he's developing a new degree program. I'll be in charge of membership and the like. I'm glad that I'll be representing my division. I have a lot of reading up before we get started in the Fall Semester.

Up until about two weeks ago, I would often spend an hour or two each night hanging out with a group of people at Starbucks. Unfortunately, the group seemed to change into a group of cliques (not unlike High School) who only seemed to want to drink, party, and sleep around. I'm too old for that crap. Hell, I didn't even do much of that when I was in my twenties. So, I stopped going there in the evening and now only go in the afternoons to visit with the nice Baristas who work there and to get my caffeine fix.

Last night I broke down and bought The Sims 3 at Target. I've never played any of the other Sim games before, and heard that this version was good for "newbies" like me. New Video Camera

Last Friday evening I finally decided to get a video camera (after a long & arduous search/review process). I was on a mission to get a Flip UltraHD video camera. A friend of mine who used to work at Target said he thought they carried it. So, I meandered over but all they had was the Flip Mino. On my way home, I said "what the hell" and decided to see if Best Buy had it. After two associates looked for about 5 minutes, I got a Flip UltraHD video camera. It was less than 200 dollars and can take up to 2 hours of HD video. It's really small and oh so easy to use. I love it! Here's a link to their website:

As is often the case, I was deep in thought in the shower today. Specifically, I was wondering why a friendship changes between two people.

You see, it occurred to me that one of my friendships has changed or 'evolved'. I think I know what precipitated the change. Originally we became fast friends because we enjoyed similar things (music, movies, TV shows, books, etc.) and liked to hang out together...specifically since we're both 'elders' in our small group. Neither of us seemed to enjoy the drinking, partying, whoring-around kind of things like the younger gays. Then my friend began partying, drinking, whoring-around, and everything else like "the A-Gays". All the while, I remained the same. Reminds me of the poem by Robert Frost entitled "The Road Not Taken".

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

Tonight I watched the pilot episode of Glee on Fox. All I have to say is, "WOW"! I am really looking forward to seeing this show this fall. Now, of course, I have to wait months for this. Just my luck some natural disaster will disrupt it coming back on.

I'm also gleeful because I found out today that my night class (that was scheduled to start tonight) was cancelled. Apparently, I only had one student sign up for the 3D AutoCAD class. Well, I'm certainly not gonna miss having to spend my Tuesday & Thursday nights at work.

Speaking of AutoCAD, I'm spending all this week upgrading the college lab to AutoCAD 2010, Architecture 2010, 3DS MAX 2010, and Impression 3. It's a tedious, tedious process...especially on 21 computers.

Semester Break - Day 2

Today is the second day of my shortened semester break. The Spring Semester ended on Tuesday, May 12. The college had to use the two built-in 'weather make-up days'. I was hoping to maybe go up to my sister's house in Virginia to spend the break, but I can't since graduation is Saturday and I'm required to attend. Talk about throwing a monkey wrench into the works. The Summer Semester begins on Monday, May 18. Luckily, I won't be teaching any curriculum classes. I'll only be working the CAD Lab and teaching a night class (if I have enough people signed up).

I started a new routine at the gym. It seems to be working well. It's great to have that DOMS and muscle tightness. Tuesday was a great leg workout and yesterday was a nice chest/triceps/abs workout. In a little bit I think I'll head to the gym and do back and calves. The cool thing is that starting on June 1, the gym will be opening 24 hours. I can't wait! Now all I need is a dedicated workout partner to push me to new levels.

I'm all paid up for my upcoming 20th High School Reunion. It'll be the weekend of June 26 & 27. I'm conflicted about it. I want to see what everyone is up to, but I'm not feeling as good about myself as I'd like. Oh well, at least Jamie agreed to go with me. If nothing else, we can hang along the periphery and gossip about people.

I've been diligent about registering daily for the HGTV Green Home 2009 in Florida. I would be thrilled beyond belief if I won. The way my luck runs though, I'll win the damn house and a hurricane will destroy the thing before I even have a chance to visit. Then I'll be left with a tax bill on a destroyed prize.

Cool & Dreary Sunday...

Despite it being cool, grey, and drizzly I'm having a pretty good day. I slept in until 9am. After getting ready, I headed to the gym for my usual "Cardio Sunday". I did 51 minutes on the elliptical followed by 60 minutes on the treadmill. I was drenched to the bone by the time I finished. On the plus side, I got the chance to oogle a really hot bodybuilder for most of my workout.

When I got home and weighed-in, I was happy to see that I only gained 0.4 pounds and stayed the same bodyfat. I'll be SO glad to get back to working out on Tuesday and Thursday evenings once my night class ends this Tuesday. I really have to kick it into "high gear" to get ready for my 20th HS Reunion at the end of June.

Friday night, I went to see the college's production of Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl with Jamie. We had a blast in the front row. Afterwards, Donald Williams, the director and fellow faculty member, invited us to the cast party. We only stayed a bit to congratulate everyone on a great performance.

Last night, Jamie had a former roommate down to visit and we spent some time at Starbucks before heading to Jamie's house for Scrabble. It was a good time.

Tonight Jamie and I are having movie night with "Milk" (which I bought at B&N last night). I can't wait to see it!

All By Myself

This song (by Eric Carmen) is the ultimate sad song. Whenever I hear it, I get misty. I heard it today and it made me instantly sad. I think the weather didn't help...it was cool and rainy. I've noticed lately that I'm more emotional than usual. I don't know exactly why. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's because one of my relationships with a really close friend has changed and I feel left behind. Okay....enough of that "pity party"!

This afternoon, it was crappy out and I was bored, so instead of taking a nap, I forced myself to head to the gym. I ended up doing 45 minutes on the elliptical and 45 minutes on the treadmill. It made me feel good, if only for a little while.

Have I mentioned that I DVR "The Bonnie Hunt Show"? I absolutely love it! Bonnie always makes me smile, no matter how crappy my day is. She's often overlooked and underestimated as a great comedian/writer/actor.

Another show I've begun watching is "RuPaul's Drag Race". Ya see, my Time Warner Cable doesn't carry the Logo Channel, but it does carry Logo On Demand. How fucked up is that?! Anywhoo, the other night I was in bed flipping when I put on the first episode. What a train wreck! But a wreck that I can't take my eyes off.

Oscar Night 2009

I'm home with Mom and we're watching The Oscar's. We've watched them together for as long as I can remember.

Today I slept in until 9am. Then I went to the gym and did my cardio workout. It was 40 minutes of elliptical followed by 60 minutes of treadmill. I had a good workout with plenty of "eye candy" to keep me occupied while the mindless minutes ticked by.

When I got home and weighed-in, I was SO happy to see that I had lost 3.2 pounds! It was a "whoosh" that I haven't had in a while.

I had my taxes done on Tuesday afternoon. I'm getting about $100 less back this year than last year. Luckily, I'm getting a refund...and in this economy, that's saying something.

I'm officially boycotting Valentine's Day this year. I have nobody other than family to celebrate it with, so it will be just like every other Saturday.

Not much else is going on with me...just work, the gym, and Starbucks. I'm gearing up for my 20th High School Reunion (which will be held here in June). Wish me luck.

Christmas Eve 2008

Today was a warm, grey winter day with a bit of a breeze. I spent most of the morning doing some Christmas baking. I made Magic Cookie Bars and Peanut Butter Cup Brownie Cupcakes. Tomorrow all I have left is the Pecan Pie, which is just a "thaw & serve".

Because everything closed early, I stopped into Starbucks to get my usual (a venti cafe americano with sugar-free cinnamon dulce). Nobody showed up, so I wandered over to Barnes & Noble and I browsed until it closed at 6pm.

Mom and I are planning on watching Midnight Mass from St. Peter's Bascilica in Rome on NBC. We watch it every year.

I've been a bit "weepy" the past few days. This time of year brings my emotions to the surface. I miss Gramma terribly at Christmas. This will also be the first Christmas without Aunt Mary. Maybe I'll get all of it out of my system by forcing myself to watch The Bells Of Saint Mary's or The Sound Of Music.

Hallelujah! The Semester's Over!

Today was my last day of the semester! I turned in all my grades just before noon. On the whole, all my students did well. I didn't have to flunk anyone, just drop them at the last moment.

After changing my temporary greeting on my voicemail and emptying my messenger bag, I got out of there as fast as possible. Now I'm off until January 5, when we return for a teacher work day (professional development day).

It's one of those cool, drizzly days and I ended up taking a nap after fueling up the Mountaineer and cleaning the windows in preparation of tomorrow's drive up to Alexandria, Virginia to spend the weekend with my sister and her family. It's an early Christmas trip. Mom, Dad, and I are leaving around 6am and hope to be up there at around noon. We'll spend Saturday up there, then drive home on Sunday.

The other day, Jamie had a little Christmas gift exchange at his house. He loved the Amazon Kindle, Judy Garland Songbook, and baking stuff I got him. My parents gave him a Black & Decker lawn blower/vac/mulcher. He gave me an Apple 1TB Time Machine (now I definitely have to get the MacBook Pro laptop) and the new Beyonce CD. He gave Dad a digital message center that you can load digital pictures onto, and Mom an electric lap blanket.

Mom, Dad, and I are going to do gifts here at home on Christmas. A friend, Sean, is coming over for Christmas dinner since he's not going home. I think we'll also go to Mass together.

I've had a very nice year and I have a lot to be thankful for. I hope that 2009 is an even better year full of love, laughter, family, and friends.

Blustery Sunday

Whew! The wind is blowing at about 12 mph with gusts to about 23 mph. Luckily, the wind is taking the remaining leaves out of the trees. Other than that, it's just sunny and cool (45 degrees).

This morning I went to the gym and did my cardio workout. I ended up doing 46 minutes on the elliptical (6.16 miles & 801 calories) followed by 60 minutes on the treadmill (3.63 miles & 686 calories). Needless to say, I was drenched when I was done. When I got home and weighed-in, I was a tad apprehensive since I didn't weigh-in last Sunday (on account of Thanksgiving). Happily, I lost 3.4 pounds and 0.7% bodyfat according to my Tanita scale. There's something to be said for being extra diligent with not snacking (even on "good for you" snacks).

Yesterday Dad, Jamie, and I went to see "RocknRolla" at the theater. I thought it was fan-friggin'-tastic! I'm buying it once it comes out on DVD. Guy Ritchie outdid himself with this film. It was chock full of action and hilarity. It reminded me of a funnier and British version of Oceans 11 (the original). I highly recommend seeing it. If for nothing else than the sight of Toby Kebbell shirtless and ripped to shreds.

After the gym today I cleaned up, grabbed a bite, then caught up on the past weeks shows on the DVR. I am extremely mad that both Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone aren't getting picked up by ABC. Why is it that all the quirky, funny shows I love get cancelled? I just don't understand. At least 30 Rock seems to be doing well and in a good position. The HS reunion episode was brilliant. At one point I laughed until I got a stitch in my side. Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin are the consumate pair.

Tonight after dinner, Jamie and I will be watching Dexter. This season has been so good...even better than last season, in my opinion.

Post Thanksgiving Monday

Well, I went back to work today after being off for the previous five days. It was great having Donna and the three kids come down, but it was too short a visit. They arrived early Thanksgiving morning and left early Saturday morning. Turkey Day went really well and everyone ate till they could hardly move. I braved the crowds on Black Friday and was out at Circuit City at 5:15am. We then went to Belk. After breakfast and a nap, we all went to see Four Christmases. We all loved it, despite the reviews.

Because of the holiday, I decided not to weigh-in on Sunday. Dad, Jamie, and I ended up seeing the first showing of Australia. It was amazing! The 2:45 length went by in a flash. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get a few Oscar noms.

Work was okay...kinda "blah". I had to take two hours leave because I had my routine dentist visit at 1:00pm. After x-rays, a quick cleaning, and an exam, I was on my way with a clean bill of health (along with a toothbrush and toothpaste). Now the corners of my mouth are cracked and my teeth feel a bit "wobbly". I always sweat about the dentist even though I take pretty good care of my teeth.

It's hard to believe that Dec. 18 is my last day of work for 2008! Where does the time go?

A Rare Occurrence

Yesterday was an odd day. It was cold out, but not terribly so. Despite that, around noon time we got a few show showers! Everyone was amazed. Granted, they only lasted about 5-10 minutes and it only happened a couple of times, but it was a sight to see.

Another rare sight was when I saw smoke coming out of the chimney when I got home at noon today. Dad started a fire for Mom. It's very cold and blustery today, but the sky is painfully bright & blue.

Last night was my last night class for the rest of the calendar year. WOO HOO! I turned those grades in this morning. However, I still have day class and online classes until December 18.

Not much else going on. The end of the semester means the students have kicked into overdrive and are scurrying around making various models and basically behaving like "chickens with their heads cut off". I keep telling them that if only they managed their time better they wouldn't be in such a rush. But then again, why listen to me??

Last night, Dad went to City Hall to receive an award for being an "Outstanding Citizen". Mom went but I couldn't go because it was my last night class. Fortunately, Jamie went in my place and sat with Mom. It's a very nice framed award along with a lapel pin.

I just wanted to take this time to thank all of the wonderful friends, colleagues, and family who took the time to send me and my family your thoughts and prayers for my Aunt Mary. Many of you took the time to email me or comment to me. My coworkers gave me touching cards and when I arrived home from work at noon today, I was astonished to see this flower delivery.
My Division sent this beautiful arrangement. I'll have to thank them profusely when I see everyone on Monday.

It's getting a little bit easier to talk about Aunt Mary without welling up. I find that when I'm getting ready for work in the morning is when I usually end up getting misty-eyed thinking of her.

I haven't had the courage yet to dig up some photographs of Aunt Mary to scan into my computer, but I immediately thought of a clip from the 1986 comedy "Haunted Honeymoon" starring Gene Wilder, Gilda Radner, and Dom DeLouise in drag as "Aunt Kate". I took the chance to see if YouTube had a clip of the song & dance scene from the film, and they did. Here's the clip:

Dom DeLouise reminds me of Aunt Mary (but without her glasses) and I smile just watching this clip.

A Sad Day...Goodbye, Aunt Mary

When I got home from work at noon today, I asked my Mom how her morning was. She said, "not good" and proceeded to break down crying. She composed herself enough to tell me that my Aunt Mary (my Dad's oldest sister and one of Mom's closest friends) died last night at around 10:30. I couldn't process the information...then I broke down too. Aunt Mary was one of my favorite relatives.

Aunt Mary went into the hospital on Halloween because she had fallen while my Uncle was in another hospital getting his bladder and prostate removed due to cancer. She was home alone when she fell and suffered some head trauma and wasn't found for several hours. Evidently, she had sepsis from untreated sores on her legs and she just wasn't strong enough to fight the infection.

I hope and pray that my Aunt is at Peace. I love and miss you already, Aunt Mary.

Halloween 2008

Yesterday was a nice Halloween. I brought some cookies and mocha fudge into work for the students. I had a student who got all hyper after eating several pieces of the mocha fudge. I didn't wear my costume to work, but I could have...there were students all around campus who were dressed up.

After dinner, I worked on the computer for a while before getting changed into my Harry Potter costume. I met the gang up at Starbucks before heading over to Jamie's house for the Halloween party. I even made some "Almond Joy Fudge" to bring over. Everyone had great costumes, though not too many of them were G-rated.

Warm & Dreary Saturday...

Today has been a warm and drizzly day so far. Mom and I did the usual shopping, then I picked up a new shite oxford shirt to go with my Halloween costume. Yesterday after work, Jen and I went to the Halloween store and both got costumes for Jamie's Halloween party. I'm going as a student in Gryffindor House (from the Harry Potter movies). I hope it looks cool. Jen ended up getting a Greek goddess mini-toga costume.

Since I'm in the slow & arduous process of putting all my music onto my portable HD via iTunes, I went ahead and joined last.fm and made a widget that plays music from my music library. Here it is:

Not much else is going on. The gym has been great this past week. Last night I had a great leg workout. After the movie this afternoon, I might go do some abs and cardio. Speaking of the gym, they're in the middle of a "mini-remodel". I'll be glad once they're done.

Thank goodness that the weather finally cooled down. Today is a cool (upper 50's) and drizzly day. I absolutely love it! I can break out my hoodies and bundle up. Today is the kind of day that makes you wanna snuggle under the covers and watch old movies on TV.

I just got back from getting my haircut. The third time really must be the charm. This was the third time this week I went to see if Ronda was working (and/or not busy).

Yesterday afternoon, I voted. I did my civic duty and voted in North Carolina's Early Voting. Now I just wish the political ads, calls, and mailers would stop. You can tell that NC is a "battleground state" with the increased canvassing and campaigning. I'm counting down til Nov 5th...whew!

Not much else is going on. Just been working, going to the gym, and hanging out at Starbucks.

Last Day Of Fall Break

I can't believe that today is my last day off. Boy, that four day weekend flew by in a flash! Jamie should be flying back from visiting family up in New York late tonight.

Today, Dad and I cut both the front and back lawns. I swear, I love the look of a freshly mown lawn. It looks like a thick green carpet.

I tried getting my haircut yesterday (Columbus Day and Canadian Thanksgiving), but Fantastic Sam's was crawling with parents and their kids. I spun on my heels and left...screw that shit! I can't go today since Ronda (my stylist) is off every Tuesday. I guess my 'mop top' will have to wait until the weekend.

Last night at Trivia, we had a good time and ended up finishing in second place. Matt (a friend of a friend) came and actually answered a couple of sports questions (which is never our strong subject...I know, go figure).

Not much else going on. A "hot spell" started today. We'll be in the mid to upper 80's until Friday. I can't wait until the cool autumn temps are here to stay.

Yesterday, I was "going down rabbit holes" online and ended up stumbling onto a website that has authentic Harry Potter costumes. It was really cool (and a bit pricey). I was daydreaming about getting the complete ensemble for Hufflepuff House (my house according to a meme I took some time back).

Wednesday Evening

It's a rainy Wednesday evening and I'm sitting in a very quiet house. Mom and Dad have been up at my sister's house in Alexandria since Sunday morning. They'll probably return home Friday. Even though they're not loud or rowdy, they do give more life to the house and without them the house feels very empty.

When I got out of work today at noon, it was warm and sunny, so I decided to wash the Mountaineer. Two hours later, she was squeaky clean and shining like new. Just two hours after that, the rain began and she got all wet when I went to the gym.

Work is going well. The gym is going well. I just finished watching the season premier of Pushing Daisies. I just love that show along with Heroes.

Monday night we ended up winning Trivia Night. It was a great night and we had a good time.

Cool Thursday Morning

Today is one of those cool, crisp mornings I just love. I can't wait until fall is here with full force. We turned the A/C off yesterday and opened up the windows. This is the first time the A/C has been off since the spring. My favorite time of year is autumn.

Things have been pretty mundane and predictable. My night class is going well. Even though none of my students have any previous AutoCAD experience, they seem to be picking it up fairly quickly. Now, if only my day students were as enthusiastic about learning.

Last Sunday after my morning cardio workout, I weighed-in and was happy to see that I had lost 2.4 pounds and a bit of bodyfat. That made me feel better about having to cut out the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays (due to my long days at the college...7:30am-8:30pm). Last night I bumped into Jeff at the gym and we did a legs/abs workout together. We had a great time and I felt fabulous afterwards.

On Sunday night, Jamie chose a great movie for Movie Night. The Fall (2006) was a stunningly beautiful film. I enjoyed the storyline and especially loved seeing Lee Pace (from "Pushing Daisies") in various costumes and states of undress. He's SO handsome!

Monday night we didn't have any Trivia Night. Jim, the man who runs the trivia, had a previous engagement. After the gym, we all just met up at Starbucks.

Next week, the college will be starting a BMI/weight loss study in connection with the UNC system. I think I'm going to try and become a participant (out of 100 faculty members allowed). They'll track us for up to 18 months to see if we lose weight. And since the criteria is based on the severely flawed concept of BMI, I should be a shoo-in. There's even a chance we could be the part of the study that receives money as an incentive.

Well, I think we're out of the woods as far as Hanna is concerned. Right now, all I'm getting is squally winds. We didn't get a lot of rain either. I ended up going to bed last night listening to my mp3 jukebox (with earbuds) so the winds wouldn't keep me up. Unfortunately, I had a fitful night worrying about what the storm is doing.

The city of Jacksonville is still under a curfew until 12 noon. I have seen a few people walking dogs along the street and one jogger just went past my window. Forecasters say we might have some sunny skies this afternoon. That would be great.

Waiting For Hanna

I'm just sitting here at home, waiting for Tropical Storm Hanna to visit my part of North Carolina. I hope she's in and out quickly with little to no damage. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

In preparation of her arrival, the college closed at 1pm this afternoon. Luckily, my day was over at 12 noon. So, I don't have to make anything up. I did prepare the two classrooms and my office just in case there is any water damage. Starbucks closed at 4pm, so I stopped in prior to dinner and the gym. Happily, my gym stayed open until 7pm. The city curfew goes into effect at 11pm. I hope it doesn't last too long. I hate being "cooped up".

Wednesday was an eventful one for me this past week. I went to my very first Spin Class at the gym. My friend, Amy, teaches the Monday & Wednesday 5:30-6:30 class and has been pestering me about it for a few weeks. Well, she wore me down and I did it. It was hard as HELL, but I made it a full 60 minutes! The sweat puddle under my bike was ridiculous. And if that wasn't enough torture for one night, I followed that up with an abs workout. Let me just say that my tailbone is still sore and I'm still a bit chafed, if you know what I mean. But, I might just take the class again.

Besides that, I also traded in my regular cable box for a DVR cable box from Time Warner. I just LOVE it! I don't know how I enjoyed TV before this? It makes life so much simpler. I've already set The Cho Show to record the whole series. It'll come in handy once the Fall Season starts.

Thursday night was my first Night Class. It's an "AutoCAD 2009 Introduction" class. I have 9 people prepaid, but only 5 showed up the first night. I was kinda hoping that the class wouldn't take so I could have my nights free, but then again, the overload pay is great too.

Speaking of classes (I was, wasn't I?), today I had to drop a student from two of my classes. He's a new student who has already missed the semester's limit in just 3 weeks. I don't think he's cut out for this curriculum.

Not much else going on with my life. My routine is just that...routine. I go to work, eat dinner, go to the gym, then end the day at Starbucks with a small group of friends. The variances are usually Movie Night on Sundays and Trivia Night on Mondays.

Today was a good day. After a morning of usual weekly grocery shopping, Dad and I decided to go see Disaster Movie. Well, it was a disaster all right! I feel like "Aunt Linda" (Kristen Wiig) on SNL when she does her movie reviews. If nothing else, steer clear of this stinker.

Not much else going on. After the movie, I made some Eagle Brand Peanut Butter Passion Bars to bring over to Jamie's birthday party. I'll bring over his gift tonight too. Mom and Dad will give him their gift when he comes over tomorrow for dinner.

End Of First Week Of Fall Semester

Well, yesterday was the end to the first week of the Fall Semester. I have 12 new students in my First-Year group. They're a great bunch of kids. All but 2 are right out of High School. I hope they stick it out for the next 2 years. I also have about 16 students in my Blueprint Reading class. That bunch is from the Electrical Installation department. I'm also teaching 2 sections of Building Construction for the Fire curriculum. Each section has about 18-20 students. My night class doesn't begin until September 4.

I just got back from seeing The House Bunny. We all thought it was a very cute, funny movie.

Not much else going on. Last Monday at Trivia, we ended up coming in second. Unfortunately, the t-shirt was too small and I didn't want the baseball cap (I'm SO not a hat person).

Tonight is an 80's themed birthday party for a few of my friends. Jamie and I don't know if we want to go. We lived through the 80's and don't have any of our old 80's clothes. If I do go, I doubt if I'll dress up.

Back To Work

Thursday I went back to work. Thursday and Friday were "Professional Development Days". To the layman, that means assembly meetings, divisional meetings, workshops, State Of The College Address, and college luncheon. I would've preferred to just have to "work days" so I could've gotten all the wrinkles ironed out of my online classes.

Monday is the first day of classes. I just got back from Fantastic Sam's. I wanted to have a fresh haircut for a good first impression. I'm considering stopping into either Gap or Old Navy to pick up a new outfit or two.

Monday Morning...

I've been enjoying my semester break. I really wish I didn't go back to work on Thursday. Why can't I get paid to do nothing?? Oh well...

Jamie flies home from New York late tonight. I've missed him. I hope he had a good time visiting with his family.

Yesterday, after doing my regular Sunday cardio workout, I came home and weighed-in. I was a bit upset about gaining 1.8 pounds and 0.3% bodyfat.

This past weekend, we didn't go to any movies. Main reason...we've seen everything that's currently playing. So, Saturday I ended up watching the last 4 episodes of Swingtown online at CBS. I really love this show. I hope the network doesn't cancel it. Hell, if nothing else, give it a chance on Showtime.

The other day while I was in Barnes&Noble, I picked up the new Harry Turtledove novel "The Man With The Iron Heart". I'm just over halfway through it and I really like it. It feels like Turtledove is returning to his roots of "alternative history". I hope to finish it either today or tomorrow.

I am SO disgusted with Big Brother 10! How dare they evict Jessie? Now there isn't any reason for me to watch. I only watched it for Steven (the gay cowboy) and Jessie (the hot bodybuilder). All the other houseguests are terrible.

Tonight is Trivia Night. I hope we win despite Jamie not being there. Most everyone else is coming, thankfully.

On Semester Break

Today is the first day of my semester break. Yesterday was my last day of work until next Thursday. I turned in grades and all my other paperwork. I also did some computer maintenance/upkeep in the CAD Lab.

Sunday after doing my cardio workout, I weighed-in and was happy to see that I had lost 1.2 pounds and 0.1% bodyfat.

It was great having Donna and the kids spend the weekend down here. They drove down on Friday and drove back Sunday. I hated seeing them go. It was nice taking them to the gym. Jon did a great job doing my workout with me.

We took them shopping during the Tax-Free Weekend, went to see The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor, and visited both Barnes & Noble and Starbucks.

Monday night after the gym, we had a big crowd at Trivia Night. We came in first once again. It's great to come in first, but I miss getting the free t-shirts from coming in second and third.
